By Chris Kohler/Digital Trends Editor October 25, 2019 09:05:07With more than 50 million active users on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, video game development is a huge part of what keeps us all playing games.
This year marks the release of the first major update to the popular online game Rocket League, and the industry has already started to see the effects of the new patch.
In a recent interview with The Verge, developer Psyonix founder and chief executive officer Jason Rubin said the upcoming patch will “bring a whole new level of stability to the game and make the game more fun and exciting to play.”
In an interview with TechRadar, Rubin added that the update will “fix a lot of things,” including a bug that prevented players from earning XP or money when playing online games, as well as a number of “troubling” bugs that have been affecting players for weeks.
A number of the game’s existing bugs have also been fixed, but some of the most troubling ones are still around.
Rocket League is one of the best-selling video game franchises in the world, and a significant part of its appeal is in the fact that it’s a fast-paced multiplayer game where players can jump from platform to platform in a frenetic, arcade-like environment.
The new patch will be the first since the game was launched in 2017, and Rubin said that the game is “much more stable now” than when the update was released.
“There are a few bugs, like the way we’re loading items and stuff that are not necessarily going to be fixed in the update, but we’ll be able to get them fixed,” Rubin said.
“We also fixed a bunch of stuff that we were finding and making changes in the game to make it a lot more fun.”
Rubin added that Rocket League is “going to be more fun for people, and we’ve got a lot to offer the community” in the future.
The Rocket League patch is the latest addition to the online game industry, and is slated to be released next week, but it’s not the first time that the industry will be adjusting to the new patches.
In 2017, Psyonox announced that it was making changes to Rocket League’s online play to improve player experience and stability, and it was the first of a series of updates to the original game.
The update to Rocket Locker was released on May 15, 2018, and included various improvements to gameplay and the balance of different matchmaking modes, as part of the “Rocket League Evolution” update.
The next major update for Rocket League will be announced on Thursday, October 25.
